My buddy is a pretty serious yote hunter. I sent him the pic and he said "let's get him!"

It's a long ways to go just for coyotes, but I'm hoping to do a few sets with him this winter. Maybe we'll get lucky.

This is nowhere near wolf country and he is average coyote size. I had several pics to compare to. I would think it would be more likely that he was crossed with a husky rather than wolf.

Chances are it's just a regular coyote with unique coat, but he does have a strange look to him besides his color. Thought he was cool looking so figured I'd share!

One thing for sure is he should stay plenty warm this winter with that coat.

I got this one back in 2010. I got several pics of him back then and he disappeared. He's the only one I ever seen.

We had one on camera last year that I was trying to get during deer season. Saw him one time with a bow and didnt get a shot.

My taxidermist actually mounted two all black ones that some guy shot on the same sit. It was a pretty cool mount and saw it when I was picking up a deer. I hear of them every couple years by us, not sure why they are a bit more common by us. The one I had the most on camera this year was completely white with no fur at all (bad case of mange). It was a really freaky looking coyote.

Beautiful. Wouldn't normally day that about a yote. I agree he's probably part dog.

Had a black yote on the farm this year, but he was stupid careful. The one time I saw him during the day was at 750+ yards away and he popped out and disappeared. My cousin has seen him twice since. We got plans to have him mounted if we can get him. I say him I have no idea could be a her.

My brother use to do trapping for cities around golf courses and neighborhoods. He caught a black one. He had it mounted and it's in a glass case. Last I heard it sat in the mayors office.

I believe there was a previous post titled "Coyote or Wolf". Since starting trapping this year and attempting to thin the ever growing coyote population here in Wis. i've never really had someone say...yes, definitely wolf or definitely coyote ( and explain to me the definite differences in between). I do understand size of the animal and size of the track do matter but its that in between size that I always have a hard time saying yep, thats a coyote, or yep, thats a wolf.

How do you distinguish the difference between a large old coyote vs a young wolf...both being the same weight ???

Guess when it really comes down to it they both love to eat fawns. But , of course, to some in the political world wolves need to be protected and loved !!

Yea looks like he might have some dog in him. Or just a pure extra bushy yote. Night pics can be really deceiving. I am no expert but wolves usually look pretty long legged. Glad you aren't one to go off half cocked and post the pic all over saying "look at this wolf!"

I shot what I'm pretty sure was a coy dog when I was a kid, wish I had kept the pelt. Had a really thick body, German Shepard looking head.

Wonder if that's a coywolf?

We saw one that looked very similar a couple of times when I was a kid. It was on my grandparents farm in far northern maine. Had the same look, dark grey and black coat, long hair, larger than average size. We figured it was just a big old well fed yote.
