Dial - In Walleye... 6/15/12

Unread postby Singing Bridge » Sat Jun 16, 2012 8:46 am

It's been nearly a week since I've been out walleye fishing... I headed over five miles offshore to the destination where I did so well last weekend. While motoring down, I noticed fish on the graph but nothing like before. I throttled ahead a ways and monitored the fishfinder while travelling over 20 mph... with my ping speed set to its highest level I can read fish while covering a lot of ground. A short run brought me to an area where they were present in good numbers. Like usual, I went after the happy fish suspended in the top ten feet of water- over about 25 feet. I drug spinners and meat through them with no takers... hmmmm. It was high noon, with blazing heat and bluebird skies along with no real wave action to deflect light. I noticed most of the fish were hanging at fourteen (14) feet down suspended, these fish are usually quite a bit slower than the high risers. I adjusted my fishweights to take my spinners to twelve feet subsurface, as I wanted to slow down and hang it right over their heads...

All heck broke loose and I couldn't keep a line in the water... good fish too, with nearly all of them going over 20" with nice little guts on them- love it when they're not skinny. I punched a ticket limit in less than one hour from the time I put the first line in the water. I caught and released a few more before calling it a day:

Great fishing there Bridge. Hard to beat those eyes for lunch.

It's been too long since I've had salmon on the grill... Thanks for the reminder adrenalin.

With fishing this hot on SagBay right now, I have never met more walleye "experts" in my life... lol

Your looking like one yourself Bridge! Way to go. I wish we had walleye fishing like that around here. Especially if it was in a smaller lake that I could use my 14' tin can on. One of these day's life will slow down enough that I will start doing a lot of fishing again. Hopefully by the end of summer.

Lance, where are you hanging your hat these days? I've go a number of inland hotspots, if I know of any near you I will certainly try to get you on them.... My fondest fishing memories are of my 14 foot aluminum and 10 horse Johnson... I had this boat to myself through grade school, caught a lot of walleye.

Awesome 'eyes... I've never been to Saginaw Bay, but would like to some day. Took a trip to Erie last spring and got in to some good fish, but like Deerslayer I'm on the other end of the state and new to the area, so finding them around here has been tough...

Now through the end of the month is a great time to go... I always smoke the Walters during June. After that it becomes more difficult as the Bay warms up... the easy fishing goes away traditionally. Experienced Bay fishermen still get on them- but if you can go this month "the time is now", as they say. 8-)
