I used to catch them alot as a kid. They would be one of the easiest ones to catch because they would be under the docks, all we had to do is drop a line right next to them and they would take it every time.

When I was a kid I used to love to catch them in Merton Wisconsin in the bark river. I would wade down the river with an ultra-lite rod and just a hook with a small piece of crawler on it. I would look for floating foam or log jams or other things they could hide under and float the worm under the hide out and when the line flicked from the fish sucking it in, I would set the hook.
We used to get monsters out of there. One time we got one that was huge and we thought we had the state record, We put it in the bathtub to keep it alive and went to a pro-shop to find out how to have it officially weighed. They confirmed if our scale was right we had the record, we went to fetch the fish... Which my Dad had found, cleaned, and started to cook.

Never threw one back.

My sentiments exactly!! For some reason a lot of the walleye lakes I fish have a lot of rock bass with only one eye? Strange...
