Time On The Water gets read every year. Gives me inspiration on tough days.

Just got back from a week of musky fishing. Be careful once you get hooked it's hard to fish for anything else. Like they say "all other fish are just bait". ;)

The best book I have by far is Musky Strategy by Tom Gelb.

Nothing like 50 years of musky fishing experience and he is not afraid to share his secrets.

Order this book. You won't be sorry.

Rather be hooked on that, than booze, gambling or dope.

I'm with you on that! ;)

Finding a good guide can be tough. I have been out with some great musky fishermen in Wisconsin but have struggled to get any solid advice or insight. I've always felt like I'm just using the guys equipment.

It is not always the case where a good fisherman is also a good teacher.

Fish weed edges with small buck tails and erratic baits (twitch minnows, glide, jerk baits) will get you fish with a little determination.

To consistently get big fish isnt easy, very similar to big buck hunting. A lot of minor small details are the difference between success and failure.

Get a few fish under your belt, hire a good guide or fish with someone with experiance is my advice. Sorry I don't know anyone in lower MI personally to suggest.

Jusrin84, did you hire a northern WI guide?

another step closer. Just bought a 17.5' Yarcraft deep V which was dropped off at the mechanic to be gone through to ensure everything is good. Cant wait!

That is a great layout for casting. One of my good buddies has the same boat but in a console. Your tiller will give more room and I like the side tanks along the side.

Thanks!
Now to sell the mod v to recoupe the money.

I am searching the net to get some boat setup ideas.
Between the poles, lures, net etc space goes quickly.

Speaking of which, I just ordered the Drifter XXL net with the paddle attachment. Holy crap those nets are expensive. Worth it for the peace of mind toward the fish, but I sure had sticker shock. I don't know why, my Bride and daughter just dropped $700 on a rod and reel set up for Father's Day.

I forgot!
I spoke with the DNR fish biologist today to pick his brain a bit. WOW! information overload!

Just like hunting where big bucks live, fish where big fish live. I learned how to search the DNR web site to find the best waters based on stocking history.

Also, the guy I bought the boat from gave me his lake maps chip with all his waypoints for walleye, of course, "jackpot" was my thought when he said that.

Anything you guys see or ideas, things you've learned for boat set up?

Im all ears, and I plan on doing it right.

So far I have
Minn Kota Terrova I pilot and foot pedal
Lowance 320 with GPS
Drifter XXL net with oar attachment
8 rod holders
2 planer boards
45 hp 4 cylinder Mercury
lighted compass

Do I need a ship to shore radio?
Should I install a stereo for some tunes?

Sometimes I wish I didn't get hooked on muskie fishing, haha! It can be tremendously frustrating but just like hunting mature bucks the reward of boating a nice muskie can't be beat!!

Boat control is sometimes overlooked but extremely important. Pay attention to the wind both the day your are fishing and the previous couple days and learn how muskies use it to position themselves on structure. Be on your best spots during majors. And most important: if you have a flexible schedule pick the best times to fish based on the weather.

Bite has been picking up on lower Green Bay. Prime time is still a little ways out. Hopefully I make it out more this year.
