I fished Puckaway in open water and through the ice enough times I feel okay about sharing some intel.
The west end is the best end, particularly the southwest corner where the Fox River mouth is. The weeds this time of year will be up close to the surface and water temps will be in the mid-70's. You're right, the lake is shallow all the way across so don't worry about finding varying water temps, all will likely be the same or close to. Big pike in that lake, no doubt about it. You really can't go wrong fishing outside of that thick matt of weeds along the cattails on that western shore, but spend more time in that river mouth where the current is, especially the weeds along the edge of the current. An old favorite of mine on that lake, and any weedy lake for that matter, are Johnson Silver Minnows. Get a 12" fluorocarbon leader, at least 80lb, and cast all day long with that Johnson Silver Minnow and have some fun. You'll catch lots of low to mid-20's, but you'll break the 30" mark with a real chance at a magnum!
