Re: Boat electronics question. Down Imaging vs Side Imaging
OK I ordered my Humminbird Helix 9 with SI and DI but they are on backorder for about 3 weeks. No big deal as I should be good to go by mid April.

My next project is to upgrade my trolling motor. I currently have a newer Minn Kota Powerdrive and want to take advantage of my new electronics. After researching I found out I can add I-Pilot Link to my current trolling motor instead of buying a new unit, saving me about $700. I watched an installation video and it looks very easy. All I need in addition to the kit is an ethernet cable to connect to my new dash electronics.

Looks like some pretty cool stuff and should really change how I fish. Looking forward to using it this year on the water.

I got $70 bucks off and free shipping with in-store pickup on the Humminbird. Were you able to beat that?
Doubt there will be any sales anytime soon since they are in such high demand causing a backorder.

Re: Boat electronics question. Down Imaging vs Side Imaging
Got my Humminbird but now the problem is how to mount it on my console. I knew it would be a big screen but surprised how much room it actually takes.
Here is what my mounting area looks like. The mount currently on dash is from my old unit.
I realize mounting on the dash is out of the question due to windshield interference so I will need a Ram Mount. Looking for ideas where to mount it and what type of Ram Mount would be best?
Here are more pics with the unit to show what I'm dealing with.

I'd put it on the rail with a ram mount rather than on the console. If it's possible.

What model of Helix 10 are you looking for?
GPS, Down Imaging or Side Imaging?
There is a $600 difference depending on which one you want. The SI has all three but retails for $1699.
I have a Helix 9 SI and it's been great but thinking about upgrading to the new Mega SI. Pretty impressed by the newer SI quality.
Don't see too many big sales on these units especially the newer models. Your best bet is buying the old models as the new ones are released. I picked up a Helix 7 GPS this way for the front of my boat and got almost $100 off.

Re: Boat electronics question. Down Imaging vs Side Imaging
The Helix 10 is a huge unit. If you have plenty of room it’s no issue but something to think about.
Here is my Helix 9 with my Helix 7 for comparison.
As you can see the Helix 9 takes up quite a bit of my console. I wouldn’t want any bigger but the large screen is nice for detail.
This is my bow mount set up with my Helix 7 and new Terrova. The entire system works awesome together with i-Pilot Link.
Figured I better update this thread since I never have when everything was mounted.

Not totally set on a ten. I would like to have down and side image with autochart. I'm worried if I go with a 7 that I won't see good detail
Any thoughts

Re: Boat electronics question. Down Imaging vs Side Imaging
The Helix 7 isn’t bad for size but detail is much better as you get bigger. It’s crazy how large some of the newer screens are now.
I think the Helix 9 is about the perfect size for the price. The only one I would stay away from is the Helix 5. Way too small for my eyes. Great budget unit but not ideal for bigger boats.
