Wisconsin "Go Wild" Licence system kill tags

Unread postby Jeff G » Tue Mar 22, 2016 10:47 am

I went down to my local bait shop and purchased my turkey and bear tag today. They ran it thru the new system. They printed it all off, including the kill tags. I looked them over and asked the guy is this what replaces the green tags from previous years? i was told yes. So, if i understand correctly, which i hope i am wrong.......we are required to use a paper kill tag and attach that to the animal before moving it. In the marsh that tag is gonna last about 30 seconds. Now i am thinking i should laminate the tag to help it last.....

Am i wrong? or will i get a tag in the mail and this paper tag printout is just a copy.

The paper tag needs to be validated (with a marker, pen, etc) but it no longer needs to be affixed to the carcass. It can be kept in your pocket, pack, etc. It needs to be presented if requested by CO.

Gib is correct. Although, if you leave the animal (drop your stand off at car, get cart/help), you need to affix it to the animal. In these cases, I'd recommend putting in a plastic bag, then attach so as to protect a bit.

Man that sounds like there is going to be a problem down the road. I'm going to take a wild guess and say there is going to be some serious poaching going on.

This doesn't make poaching any easier. Poachers are going to poach. I love the new tag system and e-registration. Happy we made the changes. I had two of the yellow tags come off over the years, so I couldn't stand that requirement.

I agree with poachers will be poachers 100%. I guess I should have elaborated. I'm talking about not having to actually affix a tag to the animal. We haven't had back tags in PA in some years now and I just carry it in my wallet. But the license is made of plastic with pre made holes to attach it to the animal. I would imagine they will make changes and improvments over time.

Thanks, I don't mind the smaller tag in my pocket, durability was my concern. Glad I don't have to attach it while getting the animal out of field. That's a relief!

That is correct. I posted this in the original backtag thread last week.

I look at it as being easier all around and look forward to everything being simplified. Good to see some common sense changes finally being made.

I like the idea of it, but I wish it was a sturdier paper tag (maybe it is, I havent seen it yet) like Wyoming. Theirs is paper/almost cloth like. I am loving the no back tag and no tagging, I have had tags fall off the animal when dragging and tear and they were a bear to get back on. This will be nice when transporting too, no worry of it blowing off. I plan on carrying the tag in a little plastic wallet type thing that some of the vendors hand out.
