Can’t do it this year but in 2019 I’m thinking hard about an elk/mule combo probably in Idaho or Montana though

Just want to point out folks. Don't put a trip like this off too long. I know life. Things like work, family and finances have a bearing on being able to go. But you never know when health or some other unforeseen occurrence will happen and keep you from ever getting to go.

Another thing is doing it while your still youngish will give you a much more enjoyable experience on average. Hiking or even riding on horseback in steep mountain country. Can often be much harder and stressful on an older body. I've met quite a few older hunters that waited to go until after retiring. Though they were glad they had the experience. They often wished they had done it at a younger age.
Happiness is a large gutpile!!!!!!!

I agree with stash, don't keep pushing this off.

My wife and I committed to a big vacation this past September. Utah and Colorado, even South Dakota thrown in with almost 3 weeks. The scenery was amazing and changed by the hour.
The National parks were great and our fitness/age made everything do-able. A guided hike called the fiery furnace in Arches wore us down. The whole group made it but the older folks struggled.
Things didn't go as planned and at least one job was missed. During the interview I stated the vacation was not negotiable.
Just make it happen if you need it bad enough.
You don't have to be the best, just do your best.

A couple of us are planning to come out there early September, OTC Elk hunt. Newbie, so any tips or advice would be appreciated. We aren’t looking for anything big, but hoping to tag something.
