Getting rid of black wasps
We've got those huge ground burrowing black wasps living near our front door. The sidewalk cracked close to a half inch wide and that's where they set up shop.
I saw 3 flying at once today, and the entrance hole is quite large. I also found another dime sized hole about 10' over in our flower bed. So who knows how big the colony is
From what I read online, the regular raid type sprays don't effect them as much as regular wasps.
I know to wait till dusk when they're all home before I take action, but I'm wondering what the best method of eradication is. The hole is wide enough I don't think flooding them out will work well... the main hole is large enough they could sneak out the side.
Figured someone on the Beast would have a good suggestion for me...

Re: Getting rid of black wasps
Ive been battling some wasps at my house, living behind my siding. I give them a shot of liquid sevin that i put in a 2 gallon sprayer. It seems to wipe them out pretty well but they come back the next year

Gasoline.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Get a can of wasp and hornet spray with an extension on the end of the nozzle. Just before dark stick the extension down the hole as far as it will go and let it fly, a lot of it, if there s more than one hole get them all. Then take a shovel and fill in the holes. I got rid of a huge yellow jacket nest behind out target frames that way after a couple of members got stung.

I read a testimonial that regular wasp spray had little effect on them. Not 100% sure if it was the same wasp specie but sounded like it. Maybe I'll hit them with spray then dump gas in their hole.
The ole one two punch...

I was going to recommend these
https://www.amazon.com/RESCUE-DhgsyU-No ... p+trapstik
as an easy start but looking at that page and my order history Amazon has increased the price from $7/each to about $28/each.

We get yellow jackets in holes down here. I take 5 gallon bucket fill with water, add 1/2 cup dawn soap stir. I push the bucked over with a stick just in case they do not come flying out.
Yellow jackets cannot fly when covered in this stuff, they usually die.

Re: Getting rid of black wasps
Regular bug spray (Raid, etc.) works on wasps and hornets but not with the stop/drop that hornet spray has.
It is amazing what gas will kill and how long the fumes will continue to work if they are sealed in with say a shovel of dirt.
Be careful, them things are tough and some folks are allergic.

Never tried it for ground nests soNot sure how this would work for them but it’s awesome for regular nests. Spray it on them and it kills them quick.

Re: Getting rid of black wasps
As a bee keeper I get calls all the time to get rid of yellow jackets, bald faced hornets and other stinging terroriest.
I only use this stuff buy it at home depot or order a case off the internet.

I got to laugh at the people who want to use gasoline. but if they are behind your sideing and you sprayed gas back there and set it on fire I do suppose you would get rid of the wasp and NOT BE ABLE TO COME BACK!!!!!!!!
Spectride pro is a contack killer also, will kill any you don't get in the first spray up to 4 weeks if it isn't washed away by rain heavy dew or watering the lawn.
