I'm wondering how they will do after the grayling fire,,at first I thought it would be great but I notice the oaks are growing alot thicker and faster than jackpine..

Loss of habitat is never good. One good thing is that the range of good habitat has expanded, especially to the East as far as Lake Huron. Time will tell...

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a KW while scouting this spring... no luck so far. If anyone has a sighting make sure you let me know. 8-)

Finding a KW is like finding a Booner in the deer woods, if anyone has a sighting I'd like to hear about it...

Ive seen a lot more warblers up here than I have boomers , but if you want to see one I just might know a few spots. Most of the local nesting areas are off limits through the nesting season but they aren't impossible to find.

There was one hanging around the Montrose area in Chicago last week. I was following long on the Illinois Birding Network on FB. Was out of town so didn't have a chance to run down, but it was all over most of the IL birding pages. Apparently the last confirmed Kirtland's they had at the site was 1996.

I recall a lot of comments of pissed off Michigan hunters when they found out how much revenue(fish and game funds) and property was allotted to this birds habitat project. I'm sure it was a thrill for your dad to see one, I personally wouldn't have been able to even guess what kind of bird that was had you not told us.

Hopefully they succeed in expanding their range. Good to hear that one showed up there.

They kind of remind me of some sort of hybrid Robin.
