Careful out there!!!

One of your fellow forum members, whom don't post often, was supposed to go on a hunt with me this weekend. I promised to help him get his 1st mount-er buck. I got the call this morning that he won't be making it. He went up to his cabin alone over the weekend, and while climbing into his stand used a dead branch for a step and was not using the 3 points of contact rule. The branch broke and he fell 15 feet directly on his back... Luckily he was able to get himself out of the woods and to the doctor... It could of been much worse, he figured broken ribs but apparently its just badly bruised ribs... He won't be able to hunt or pull a bow back by this weekend.

Glad your friend and fellow forum member is all right.

I have to say though if I had a chance to go hunting with you I would probably not be out in the woods for about 2 weeks prior :D

Yes please watch after yourself. I rushed out without my linemans harness and knew I was pulling a stick/stand before evening sit.
With no mental battle, the truck was back in the driveway for that harness.
Please be safe out there.

We all need to be careful out there. It is dangerous and accidents happen all the time. Good reminder for everyone.

This can never happen to me - is something we all need to get out of our heads. Good reminder. learning from others mistakes/accidents is an eye opener

As careful as I am I had an incident the scared the crap out of me a few days ago while hunting very remote! I climbed a tree that really hard bark with my Summit Climber. Half way up I thought this was probably not a good idea but kept going since I had my harness on. As I was getting positioned and sat down on my seat the lower platform dropped as soon as I lifted my feet. There I sat 25 feet up with nothing underneath my feet. The lower platform was attached to the top with a rope but it is over 6 feet long. My fault and should have known better to shorten it. One option was to unstrap my safety harness and hang from the top bar till I dropped on the lower platform. Using my better judgement I decided against that and tried to pull the lower platform back up with the rope. Problem with that was being attached on one side it kept getting cocked sideways. After a half hour of working It I was finally able to get it within reach. I was getting worried there for a bit but glad it turned out O.K. I make sure I always text my wife my GPS coordinates BEFORE I climb a tree so someone knows right where I am in case something happens. If something does happen the sooner they find the better as minutes can be the difference between life and death.
