That right there is what it's about.......never miss the opportunity, when that is missed, it comes with regrets later on. Makes whatever you have to deal with to make it happen, a small price to pay. Well Done!!!!!

X2.

Love it up in the Baudette area.

Thanks guys -- it was a weekend I won't forget - pretty unexpected. ... I couldn't get my mom to kiss her very first walleye... or even touch it. City girls.

I love it up there too. My boat is up there ready for the March 15-April 15 early season (hog) walleye spawn run... We launch over the shore ice and catch some nice fish. I fish LOW for walleyes in the fall and winter and Rainy River for walleyes and sturgeon in the spring...

Ice is getting good here in Indiana and we are able to get to some walleye spots. Made it out the last 2 evenings and caught several shorts and tonight finally got a couple of keepers.

Sunday afternoon scouting a new lake buddy and I.

All between 24.5 and 27 kept. Released about same amount of small ones.

Will be bringing the family here soon. Lots of snow and slush on ice yet in northern WI. Access point still only had 8"-9" of ice even after our long lasting brutal cold weather. Where we were fishing 13"-15" of ice.

Thanks for comments guys. I should have mentioned this lake was scouted during open water in the boat with likely locations for ice fishing marked in fall.

These fish we're slid up shallower than I would have thought in about 5-6 feet of water in the back side of a neck down area entering a back bay. Green weeds in bay.

My first thought was at the mouth of the neck down where deeper water of 10-12' existed with good weeds. We had tip ups starting at the break and working shallower. We moved shallower as day progressed and found more consistent action.

I still think the bigger fish were deeper but these small fish were ok for eating. I believe the 30" plus pike are in deeper water now and occasionally slide up to the break into shallow water.

I should note that when the 30" plus pike are found they will be caught and released. The size we kept were ok for keeping but 6 were females. I will not try and keep that many females in the size slot again on this lake.

Any pike around the 30" range always gets released is my rule.

Fishing is tough on the big EP this year. You aren't alone. While there is a fish kill every year, last year's was bigger than most.
