The electronice give you a big insight on fish behavior. If presentation changes don't work, change the jig color, size, and shape. Aggressive jigging only brings them in as they feel it with their lateral line. Certain fish have preferences to. I can pick up fish one on jig 2 after he ignored jig 1. And catch fish two on jig 1 after after he ignored jig 2. Have fun with it!

Neutral fish I like a small horizontal jig like a rat finke tipped with a single spike or minnow head.

Try pounding the jig right in the mud a few times and slowly bring it up off bottom with some pauses.

Good luck.

Like Bass mentioned you may catch a few fish and need to switch to a totally different type of jig to keep catching fish in the same hole.

When I'm jigging I have at least 4-5 rods pre rigged with different styles of jigs. I just keep switching back and forth between rods.

Another option when you have a bunch of neutral fish is to move around until you find some active ones

Most times this means moving lakes in my experience.

There is an old saying, don't leave fish to find fish but this isnt always true.

These choices will come easier with experience. Also suggest next year open water, scout locations to fish through the ice marking exact location with GPS way points.

Any recommendations to keep ice from building up on fishing line? I tried to do some hole hopping yesterday and had a heck of a time jigging with the ice chunks forming on the line.

Easiest solution is to turn up the heat in the pop up shelter.

Use of flourocarbon line will significantly reduce ice buildup due to the low surface tension of fluorinated polymers.

For the eyes/guides, there are several commercial and DIY options. DIY options range from glycerin, petroleum jelly, chap stick, and cooking spray.

I'll often treat my spikes with an oil based scent or cod liver oil. Both will minimize ice buildup in the hole.

I hope this helps.

Cod liver oil is one of the greatest fish attractants there is... including for trophy fish. Just make sure the oil is pure and without additives for flavor, etc.

Last Saturday during the Veteran get together. It was a pretty slow day on the ice, fish were very hesitant. I only caught 2 crappies. Some guys set up nearby in the morning and were catching fish. They were Vets too and we stuck together for rest of the day. Thats the great thing about Veterans. We aren't afraid to introduce ourselves and hang out. Complete strangers too. The only thing that mattered is that we served in the same war and we love the outdoors. It was nice to be around them. Hope to see them again next year.
