Tickle Stick ice rods.
Im beefing up my ice equipment this year and ordered a Black Betty reel today. Im also looking to buy a new jigging rod too for gills and crappie. I been looking at the Tickle Stick. I read alot of reviews and there seems to be a mix of good and bad. Anyone use a Tickle Stick rod? Good or bad experience with them?

I heard you really need to work it to get any action and it's a mess in the end.

Re: Tickle Stick ice rods.
If it is one of the rods with the built in spring bobber tip thing, don't do it. Ive gotten better hooksets using cooked pasta. Get a medium action rod and put on a spring bobber. Not one of those dumb pen spring bobbers, just a thin flat wire one with a painted loop on the end. The pen springs will ice up when its 50 out. Right now for the money I love the fenwick hmg rods. Have caught everything from 5 inch gills to a 26" walleye on them last year. Plus I think the fenwick is half the price.

Agreed. I run adjustable titanium springs on most of my rods. Just need a good backbone and a good drag

Re: Tickle Stick ice rods.
Last season was my first year using one, and I really liked it. They do have a tendency of breaking from what I've heard. I'm guessing it's mostly a transport issue from what I've experienced. If you do buy one make sure you taking extreme caution when transporting it. If you just leave it in a 5 gallon bucket with all of your other rods while traveling across the lake you won't have good luck with it. My advice is to wrap the line around the rod in a spiral fashion before placing your jig on the D loop just above the handle and have a decent carrying case for it.

They do break very easily. My b.i.l. broke his before he even used it, and he is very meticulous about his things. Better opions out there.

Re: Tickle Stick ice rods.
I will be the odd man out here, I bought one last year and it was my go to rod all season. Granted I just use it for pan fishing. I absolutely love the thing though. No issues with breaking the tip like a lot of people claimed. Very easy to detect bites(I hate using the little Cheap spring bobbers) If something happened to this one I would replace it without a doubt. I even landed a northern with it last year. Very impressed overall.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry, Im just not convinced the Tickle Stick would be something I would risk my money on. Seems like you gotta treat the thing gently and Im not very gentle on my ice gear. I do treat my fish finder like a baby though. Im gonna have to look into another rod. I've read alot of good stuff on the Jason Mitchell Meat Stick.

I would also like to add I do have a few jigging rods. I want something that will be the best fit for my new reel. Just got that today in the mail by the way. Ordered it last Friday. fishusa.com is awesome.
