A few 2014 sheds

Unread postby Redman232 » Sat May 24, 2014 2:38 am

Here are some of the sheds I found this past spring. I most interested in the one in the middle, it's 2 1/4'' diameter at the peticle. I can't figure out if it's a young deer or an old deer with crappy genetics? Any thoughts.Image

One thing to consider is the summer growing conditions the previous year. The antlers grow from the base up. The brow tines will be fully formed before the g3s are even half grown. If there is a normal or wet spring but then the summer is a drought, then the antlers can show normal to great growth from the bro tines down but seem thin/stunted out towards the ends. In 2013 I found a couple of sheds that had that look.

I'd put money on it, they have the same peticle size and the both have split brows, the rights side, the bigger split in the front was broken off and on the left side the smaller split on the back was chewed off by the tree rats. We found them about a half mile apart, he should be a toad this year.
