Finally got out scouting for myself...

Unread postby dan » Sat Feb 24, 2018 12:25 pm

Finally got out scouting for myself. Only a couple hours, tomorrow morning I will be scouting for someone else again, same on sunday... But it was nice to get out today, with the exception tracks indicated shed poachers have been on Daves farm prior to me... I hope they didn't get my target bucks sheds.

Nice shed Dan. Will not be any scouting around here for little bit. We have had about 8 inches of rain in two days. Everything is up and flooded. Thunderstorms an severe storms are expected tomorrow.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

NIce find! I know you hunted on Dave’s farm a few times this past year and saw more deer than you’ve seen in a long time. Judging by the videos and journal, you know where the primary bedding is. Did you have a certain goal or objective for this scouting mission and were you successful?

I mostly just had a couple hours and wanted to go for a walk... I did look at some bedding and a potential new spot to put a plot though... It always amazes me how buck beds will be in the exact same spot year after year. 2 years ago I back tracked a big buck track into the CRP field and found his bed watching my access right inside the edge of a small patch of switch grass. Went and looked and there is still a heavy used bed right there.

Like you've said many times...They pick those spots for a reason! If it ain't broke why fix it!

It boggles my mind that guys will risk trespassing for sheds.

Awesome that you had a good outing Dan, and thanks for sharing so much of your time.

Nice you got out for yourself for a day. I took the day off work yesterday with my bro in law and we scouted up in northern WI. As you can see from the photo (that’s my bro in law in the pic), it wasn’t easy walking in some spots (marshes especially). Found some good beds tho. Beautiful with the fresh snow. And we have another 10 inches coming this afternoon.

If the guys I know put half the effort into deer hunting that they do into shed hunting, they probably would be knocking down some serious bucks. They get more excited with sheds from a 150” buck than shooting one.

Sheds are cool but you still need to kill the buck
