I'm in a field scouting tonight and bumped a deer that is still carrying.

That's late. I've seen them in mid March still carrying before. The mild winter probably kept them on longer this year.

I saw a spike laying dead on the side of the highway last week.

The owner of my archery shop said he had a buck in his backyard with bloody pedicles last week

Which amazes me because I hear quite a bit about bucks shedding during season in Wisconsin.

We still have some carrying head gear at the first of turkey season here. Which is middle of April.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

I have seen young bucks mid April still holding.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

They must all still be holding because I haven't found one single shed yet.

The Lansing Journal (Michigan) posted a giant 12 point still holding both sides that was photographed next to the airport fence.

Airports of all sizes are a very much overlooked sanctuary for big bucks. It is uncanny how they can slip in and out, everyone thinks the fences keep them in. Many times they do not.
