SHEDS & DEADS what do you do with your collection

Unread postby Outdoor814 » Sun Jan 29, 2017 9:13 am

I don't consider myself a hardcore shed hunter. I do enjoy looking for them and it's another excuse to get out of the house. Usually the sheds I find are admired for a few weeks then my dogs decide they would rather destroy them than watch me gawk at it.

I have throw the idea around of making coat/hat racks or towel hooks with them but never follow threw with it. What do you guys do with yours? Do they sit in a box in the shed? In a pile in a man cave? Let's hear it

I find a dead head or two every year. Usually little bucks. I hang them up in the garage.

Haven't found enough to really find a "use" for them. Got a few in the garage. One in the house on my dresser couple I've lost somehow.

They do make some cool "decoration" type pieces. Guy a bring steel to for work as a house full of them. Really neat to see all the different ones. I have always wanted to make a knife handle but I know I'm not that crafty.

Now they just sit in the garage. Would love to make coat hooks or door handles from them. Look pretty cool.

Or I will just give them to my personal disposal service (yellow lab)

I made this lamp about 8 years ago. Other than that I pile them up. Just last year I gave away all the dead heads I has and a decent amount of the sheds.

I give the small ones to my nephews and keep the big ones. I'm getting enough of them that I need to figure something out. A guy I know has a bunch of sheds hanging from a horizontal twine in his garage. They're upside down held up by the brow tine if that makes sense. Kind of a neat way to display them so you're not tripping over them and you can actually see each shed rather than have a big pile of them all tangled up.

I hung one by a bicycle hook in my garage. It will allow me to pull it down and check it out or show someone without it permanent mounted. And out by the bbq grill a few are wired up on posts.

Like other people mentioned I have a personal disposal device, Trixie.

I don't have any good ideas for display yet. Right now I just display the bigger ones and take a few to work with me so I have something to get my mind off work at lunch. I saw a video once of someone making an antler Christmas tree. I asked my wife if I could do that if I ever had enough antlers and she said sure thinking I would never get that many. Hopefully someday I can prove her wrong. :D

Just throwing them on a pile on a shelf for now.

At my cabin (3 hours from here) I have a set that are made into Cribbage boards. Those are neat ! I'm going up there in a few days and will try to post a photo or two..

I love that idea, somehow I don't think my wife would enjoy it as much in the kitchen.
