About the only good news is I know what kinda genes are in the area.

Question, any Michigan guys have success finding sheds, I've only found a couple over the years, more dead heads then anything else. Now I have not spent the time trying like a lot of guys in the beast, but also don't know any guys who have much success in Michigan either. Just wondering if I should put more effort into it or just keep scouting???

Pretty sure he was in his bed but was drug away by bears. The only reason I found him was going to look under a big hemlock for a bed.

There was absolutely nothing left of him. Antlers and hide is all.

It's a good way to get to know landowners. I have a few farmers that let me turkey and shed hunt. One gave me permission to deer hunt after knowing him a few years. I got him a customer for lease cropping.

Yeah I have kinda abandoned my turkey hunting properties because I can't deer hunt them. I know there are good deer on a couple of the properties, I should get out there and check them out. I have done quite a bit of scouting on the public I have been learning the last couple years. I am new to the beast So it's been a learning curve with finding the beds. I keep expecting to find some sheds in these bedding areas but so far no go. I know bucks are around because of the sign but just have not found sheds yet.

Its not easy, I go threw phase's. This year I found three sheds in 2 days and that dead. I've probably walked close to 20 miles since then and haven't found a thing.

That's for sure outdoor814. I once found 4 sheds all from different bucks in a stretch of about 100yds along a fence row. Most I find in Michigan are from yearlings. My number one habitat for finding them in southern mi is old field habitat. Stuff that has weeds, small red cedars, autumn olive , grey dogwood, hawthorne , and wild apple. Deer seem to yard these areas in winter around here. I have looked in cattail marshes and swamps and don't find many there. I think they end up under water.

In my area of the state it seems like the deer like to yard up on large coniferous areas. There usually bordered by AG fields or swamps.

Although this year I found my matched set in a wet brushy field area. And my loner shed was on a point UNDER 2 hemlock trees that lead to a marsh.

My buddy and I walked every row of large standing corn field Saturday. Probably took over an hour and we didn't find anything.

Found this one today. Probably a year old and chewed up good but a dandy buck nonetheless.

That's stinks. He's decent.

OK if you shot at a buck like that would you stop looking for it? And if not at what point do you stop?

That's a good question. A mortally wounded buck can travel a couple miles. I think joere brothers buck was found like 2 miles from where it was shot. The problem where I found this buck is it's all private land. You can't blood trail here without permission. If a buck covers 2 miles here he could cross many different properties.
