Early shedding
I have pictures of 2 shed bucks as of last week.
1 is a 4.5 year old the neighbor hit with his crossbow, a month ago so I think he shed early due to stress.
The other deer is a 1.5 year old he may be hurt or worn down but I am not sure why he shed early.

Re: Early shedding
I've got a couple on camera in the last two weeks with only one side.

Re: Early shedding
I work for a power company and was working an outage the other night and saw a really big buck that had shed one side and my uncle shot a 1.5 old shed buck mistakenly as a doe yesterday. Definitely shedding early here in va.

Re: Early shedding
This isn't really that early for shedding. Over the years I have seen MANY shed bucks before January. Early December would be very unusual but not so much now. I have had late archery seasons where it was tough to find a shooter buck with a full rack.

Re: Early shedding
I had a big 4 year old shed on December 1 this year, he shed last year on December 15. I fed him heavily all through last year since I saw he was sick - and have kept it going. It seems he was in full health for the first time in October of this year but ran hard up until he shed. Now he is food, food, food. I always get some that shed in late December and then around half of my older bucks will drop by the end of the month.

Re: Early shedding
Today was the last day of late archery here in IN and U still have a buck tag (by choice) I've had opportunitys at 41 differant bucks. I should of tagged my buck #14 but shot low and took hair off his belly.
I located what I thought was a mature buck a few days ago by tracks in the field. This morning had him walk by me at 35 yards and he had shed both sides. He is at least a 5+ year old buck and I will be looking tomorrow for his head gear. He has been staying in a small block woods that's only 5 acres.

Re: Early shedding
I think that early snow storm stressed the deer in the Midwest . I shot a 12 pt in the UP on December 27th and when I walked up to him his rack had fallen off. In my experience they are dropping earlier than past years.
