coyote or coon lures

Unread postby live2hunt » Sat Oct 05, 2013 3:54 pm

I know this is a top secret thing in most trapper circles, but I just wanted to see if anyone would share their secret go to lures for coons and yotes? I am trying to figure out what I want to try this year.

Got access to any persimmons? Coons love persimmons.

If you're using leg hold traps, try wrappin the pan with tin foil (shiny side up) and placing the trap in shallow water (2" deep). The tin foil will reflect light and the coons can't stand it. They'll have to touch it. I have caught many coons that way.

For coons I use fish based lures. Typically sardines or fish scraps.

For yotes I use fox urine and commercial lure. I have had great luck with castor lure and red fox gland lure.

And remember to gang set. That was one of the biggest mistakes I made my first year. I never set multiple sets and then I would have an oppossum clog up my set and I would never catch my coons or yotes.

This day was a short line with a lot of gang setting.
