We catch them on bank lines, juggs, and troutlines. The best bait we have found is ground hog.l will kill the pig skin it and gut it then I'll chop it up with a hatchet and smash the bones so it stays on the hook better. Any bloody meat will work I've caught them on coon also. After I catch the turtles I usually don't soak them much at all. I chop there head off and quarter them. I just leave the bones in, roll them in flour and brown all sides. I then put them in a pan with mushroom gravy and bake for a few hours. It's good eating. I don't hunt turtle as much as I use too. I grew up doing it.

Used to catch them when I was a kid and sell them or give them to a family friend who would make soup. Now its just catch and release.

Watch your fingers. Those snappers get a hold of them and that is going to be some serious pain.
