Well, just a little more work done today and letting it dry again for a few days, or whenever dinglenuts can get back over here.

Eyes coming together nicely.

Nose as well, still more hand painting to be done.

First base layer of antler coloring on. Anticipate doing this 3 more times and then doing some fine hand painting to finish.

Last week.

Well, the project will finish up Thursday evening. We have maybe 2 more coats of antler stain and some fine hand painting on the nose and eyes to do. Buddy said 2 hours max, mostly tedious hand painting.

Cool post - I love to see how it all comes together for other people, as I do a little hobby taxidermy on my own deer.

Looks great Mud.

Very little left to do now. I spent a hour and a bit hand touching the nose pad up. Most taxis don't do this because most hunters don't care. This ads some 3D affect to the nose pad. We used a clear touch up glue like material that I don't remember the name of. Sometimes he puts a little color in it but my cape had a "perfect" nose so we just went with clear.

All that's left is to brush the inside nostril hairs up so they are visual and touch them with white to "make them pop". The eyes also have some minute details to paint, and the antlers are getting one more color touch up. Other than that, he's done. Really cool to have a mount of my Dads best buck, with the cape off one of my bucks, and that I did a significant amount of the work myself under supervision of a true master taxi. I'd be a total douche without at least posting his web site info.

He will be entering this mount into the "Masters Division" here in Iowa this year. It is his first attempt for such a high award.

Wow Muddy, that is awesome and a great thing to do on your dad's buck. Extra special that you got to use your cape too. That will bring back many kinds of memories for years to come.

Finally found time to finish him up.

Day 1 so long ago...

Last night upon completion. As usual pics don't do justice. I'll try and hang outside in sun next week for better pics.
