Tanning a bear hide

Can someone tell me a rough estimate to tan a 5' bear hide? I am being told $3.50 per foot plus salting fee and it seems a high to me. I am just looking to have a hide tanned so I can keep it without mounting it or turning it into a rug.

So what total price are you coming up with?

I am getting a rough quote from Trudell's taxidermy for you. I will pass along once I hear back from jay.

I looked online at a tannery I have used Before. They said 3.50/inch.
Jay got back to me and said he will look as well.

Looking at about $330 for a 5' bear. I guess after looking at the amount of work that goes into tanning that isn't unreasonable.

Thanks. $3.50 is what I was quoted as well.

Yes that is reasonable. I killed a 6 footer back in the 90's. It cost me $200, b for a full rug. But I had my buddies daughter do it. She was thinking about doing taxidermy for a living. Did it more for the practice. Would have cost me over $400 from a regular shop.
