The Hunting Beast

So the topic came up this year between myself and a friend about fixing broken antlers on Deer that you have killed. It came up when I shared a photo with him of a buck I killed this year because he had managed to brake off one of his g2 before I killed him. I had video of this buck 20 days prior and he had g2 at that time. I said absolutely not cause I didn’t kill him that way. I said the only way I would personally feel ok about fixing it was if it broke on the death run. He thinks the buck deserves to have it back especially cause I have video showing exactly what it looked like. I’m not fixing it. Thought it would be interesting to see how everyone else feels about it . For or against it. I’m not changing my mind just thought would be interesting to see how everyone else thinks

I'm against fixing them for my personal mounts. I like to remember them how I shot them. But different strokes for different folks.

No judgement either way here. I've done both. One of my bucks it added character leaving it broke. The other one had just two small tips less than an inch and I had repaired. Depends on the buck for me.

To each their own. Personally I wouldn't. Killing a buck with broken tines conjures up all kinds of scenarios of how and with whom it happened. Which is fun to continue to do for years to come. If it's possible I maybe would frame a picture of the buck with his full regalia if I had a good pic of him.

Good idea stash

I had one fixed on my best buck at the time. A 130 nine pt. I had many pics even the day before without it broken. The taxidermist replicated the pic, but what he didn't say is that he was going to stain the ENTIRE rack dark to hide the fixed tine. That was a total bummer. It looks cool, but nothing like what I shot. I've shot 2 with broken tines since and haven't fixed them, with no regrets.

I do not fix them

I'm not really sure what I would do I passed a decent 8 this year just because he had 2 broken tines.. but I think for me it would depend on the buck but I understand the guys that say it takes away from how the deer was when it was killed.

I never killed a big buck, but I am pretty sure I would leave it alone and not fix it.

I always thought mount them just the way they were but decided to have a broken tine fixed on last years Iowa buck. In hindsight I wish I had just left it because the repair job was not done very well. Somebody else probably wouldn’t notice but I do.

I’ve never had any fixed, for me I don’t see making them any different than they were when I shot them.

I probably would not fix it.

Personally I would never fix it unless it broke between the time of kill and the taxidermy. But each their own. Not my buck not my choice

i fix em and add a few kickers and drop tines. i did some custom work for some dude in mich a bunch of years back. i wish he would have let me fix the droopy ears.
