Favorite pose
So it's about that time of year when we get to choose our pose for our bucks. What is everyone's favorite pose and post a picture to show if you have. I have to get back to my taxidermist soon with my choice. I'm think I'm going with a full sneak shoulder off set pose, with ears forward on full alert. Not 100% sure though if I want that pose....

Re: Favorite pose
Personal opinion....I can't stand any mount with ears forward like that. I have one and I wish I could redo it. It makes me nervous looking at a deer on full alert, even when he's dead

Re: Favorite pose
I like the semi sneak pose. The one u are looking at is cool to, especially if you have a few on the wall already, it mixes it up

Re: Favorite pose
I’m not a fan of forward alert ears myself either.
Both of mine are semi sneak
If I do another mount it has to be a buck of a lifetime giant. I would probably go with a wall pedestal for it.
Here are my mounts

Re: Favorite pose
JeffG has a killer nose up scent checking pose on here somewhere. it was custom done to where the nose is higher up then on the original form. thats by far my favorite.

The beast "attack mode" pose is always a real head turner!

Re: Favorite pose
Pick whatever pose you like, I usually like to chose a mount that reminds me of that deer.
In all honesty everyone has opinions on favorite poses but its just that opinions. Deer with alert ears are very common in nature. Pay attention to deer when you see them or watch vids of them you will see they put ears in alert position all the time. Deer when walking are constantly changing ear positions as well. Alert or relaxed back are some of the most common ear positions typically deer change from relaxed back to alert constantly so you see all sorts of variations in between as well.

Re: Favorite pose
The next one I have done, believe I'm going with a Joe Meder head up off-set form. Wish I would have seen it earlier the one I'm currently having done I choose a semi sneak slight left turn form

Re: Favorite pose
The semi sneak with a turn is nice. I also like a head up and alert look. Not sure what that's called. I personally don't care for ears pinned back. Looks like a bulldog ready to fight to me. But that my opinion

Re: Favorite pose
The Mckenzie semi sneak with offset shoulder its the one that shows more of the shoulder to really show off a mature deer is a really good option for a mature buck. If you don't have many deer on the wall with that pose already a Mckenzie offset semi sneak or semi upright are tough to beat. I think those poses look best with ears out alert or in some form of out not back but deer will position the ears every which way in those poses. 2 of my last 5 mature bucks were with the Mckenzie offset semi sneak with ears in alert position they look pretty good.
I just got my 2017 buck back which I had done on the Mckenzie 64D, the buck was walking with its head down and neck in the semi sneak position as he worked his way following a doe from bedding to food. Most of my bucks were mounted in a way to remember the encounter so I can re live the hunt when I look at my mount. That was my 2nd 64D pose I like it some people don't.

Re: Favorite pose
The more mounts I look at, the more I find that the ARTIST that made the form becomes more important to than the pose. The noses, the jaws...on some forms are square, more roman nose. Many 4-5+ year old bucks have HUGE heads and big roman noses. Some forms just don't capture that.
And most taxidermists are not going to clay and foam them to make a replica unless you ask for pay for it.
