Ruined Buck

Unread postby Octang » Wed Feb 14, 2018 3:15 pm

I shot a really nice 10 pointer 15+ years ago, and I had him in the basement for a while and it got too damp and he lost a lot of hair. Am I able to get him remounted? I would really like to have him on the wall again. Can I assume I can just shoot another deer and have a taxidermist use that hide with these antlers?

Yes.

You can buy a cape from your taxidermist as well.

Oh perfect, that is even easier. Quite honestly, I was slightly disappointed with the original mount because the neck was a lot skinnier than how the deer looked when I shot him, so I always wanted to have that changed.

Getting a cape like that and getting it remounted on a new form really is the easy way to go. While it is a bummer that your mount got ruined it looks like it might turn out for the best in the end.

Just check it for insects. There are a variety of insects that will cause it to drop hair as well.
