Antler mounts

Unread postby adelle26 » Fri Dec 21, 2018 8:33 am

As many shoulder mounts as I’ve got in my house, I still appreciate a simple antler mount on a panel. These are easy to make. And much more authentic-looking than those cheap kits at the sporting goods store. I buy my panels from a custom wood worker and everything else can be sourced at the craft store.
Would anyone be interested in a DIY tutorial thread on how I make these? I’d be happy to share on the next one I do.

These are two of my bow kills.

Sure go ahead. I've seen a few, but always seem to pick up something new with each one. The big craze is European mounts, but this style has a ton of tradition behind it!

I always liked antlers on a plaque and need to redo some of my old ones. A tutorial would be great. Always good to see how others do things.

My first FL bow kill

I had a lease on a cattle farm.
The owner and his family were so kind to me I opted to ‘honor’ them in the mount

The mark I burned in the old pecky cedar board is their cattle brand. The barbed wire came from an old string I tripped on traipsing through his woods.

I would really like to read a tutorial on how to make these! This mount is one of my most cherished mounts in the house. Stained leather with stained Walnut plaque to give it a more old school look.

It is real leather. You’re gonna laugh but I got a big cardboard box full of real leather samples in different colors from a furniture store (my grandmother is big into crafting and had been hoarding it for some time until I was able to talk her out of it) lol
But you can order the same kind of dyed leather from wholesale tanneries like Yost in Wisconsin any time.

This is my best mount, not my biggest, that I did with a kit from Matuska. This is the only deer I shot hunting with my dad back in 2007 and has a lot of very special memories for me.

I would love to see a tutorial for some other ideas and processes.

i do mine with deer hide a hot glue gun and some 1/4 in hemp rope too dress up around the bases. sometimes i make a plaque with a nice grained log and a chain saw. then i simply drill a hole in a skull plate and screw it on. Image
