Great buck Mario, and great story. Good reminder that it's not all about hunting and putting a big buck down (although you did  ), but we need to take in all the blessing we have. Thanks again!

Great looking buck Mario!!

Nothing was getting onto high ground in daylight. All the movement from Thursday night was in the cattails.

I see this all the time in high pressure areas and I made it a point of emphasis by mentioning it several times at our Michigan spring workshop with Dan. We will definitely need to discuss it more here on the Beast- I got a lot of confused looks when I brought it up.

Great job on the buck!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

I agree, the sign on the mainland (islands, peninsulas, or points) all seem to be done at night. Other hunters in the area were getting a lot of trail camera pictures at night. For the first time this year I placed a camera in a known travel corridor where we have seen mature deer move through in the past. But this was down the middle of a small island. This year the pattern changed all the mature deer were skirting the edge, walking the swamp grass transitions, or walking the trails in the cattails and red brush. It's good to note when you are thinking about stand placement on your set-ups in swamps; what you can see, and what you can shoot to. 10-15 yards back can make all the difference in a buck getting to you in daylight in these scenarios. Other hunters set-up in the middle of these islands or in the timber of the mainland reported seeing deer but anything with size they said was moving late and on the edges so they had no daylight left. If possible that is where getting mobile with sticks and a stand on your back can allow you to make an observation one night then slide in for the kill on the next set based on where you see movement on those transitions, points, and edges. This also may mean getting aggressive and moving into the swamp on one of those lone scraggly trees to get on the right trail...

thanks again Bridge!
