Late season bow buck heart shot

The day started out with my truck in the shop getting an undercoat before the winter season. Things were taking longer than expected and I wondered if I would be able to make it out for an afternoon hunt. Eventually I got the call and my truck was ready. With a heavy west wind and cold temps I was limited on options but figured I'd go to an area that hasn't been touched since the gun group. I wasn't able to get to the farm until 2:45pm and figured if I intruded into the perimeter of the bedding thicket this late in the afternoon that I'd be busted. I don't like hunting field edges but I was short on time and out of options. I climbed a ladder stand on an inside corner of a cut corn field where I hoped does would enter with my fingers crossed that a buck would be following. With about 20 mins of light left 2 does entered the field from the known bedding and a 3rd entered from my left off a ridge system where I honestly didn't know any bedding occurred. The deer fed for a bit and kept looking over to the left. Then a bigger bodied deer entered the field and my binos confirmed it was a nice buck checking on the does. Light was fading fast and I had to go for broke. A few grunts and a snort wheeze was enough to pull him in close enough to send an arrow on its way. He ran 50 yds and dropped dead in the field. Backed out and gathered help and upon gutting, found a perfect heart shot. It's been my best season yet and I am realizing hard work and getting a better understanding of whitetails is proving results and pure luck is having less to do with the outcomes. Image

Awesome buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
