Love to get some color around how you located and patterned the bucks. Awesome hunting!

I only had history with the Michigan and Ohio bucks. The Ohio buck I've watched a few years through pictures and glassing in late August and early Sept. This area is a summer range but occasionally I get a very short opportunity before they transition to their fall range.. usually first few days before the season and if the crops are at the appropriate maturity. Many years the deer are gone when the opener comes. I got lucky this year and this guy was still around. Likely for just that day (opener) and maybe the next seeing as how the farmers were aggressively taking out the surrounding fields and discing them immediately after. He was bedded about 100 yards away under a lone oak in the standing corn. The corn and thick foliage allowed me to access the open area without being detected. After the shot he headed for his bed and died about 20 yards short of it in the standing corn.

The Michigan buck was very active all last year and this year. Hard to believe he didn't get killed prior. He had been shot at some point high in the back as he had an old wound (most of my mature bucks from Michigan have old wounds). He was moving a lot all October in an open area where no hunters could really get close. I routinely sat an observation stand 300-400 yards away pretty much every south wind which we had many. I could watch him and see when he started to show vulnerability where I could ambush him. Late October he started showing weakness and I hunted the spot the first good wind I had on Nov 4. He was on the move every morning and evening checking his area. Pretty standard pre rut hunt .

Great season! WOW! Sucks about the booner 8. What a scumbag. Great job getting your daughter involved in the outdoors and hunting.

That's awesome man. I like how you guys tied that drag rope to the front legs. That's using your noggin.

Lots of memories made for you this season. Shake off the bad experience and keep doing your thing.

Yea I wonder where your daughter gets her killer instinct....Not. Sounds like that hunt was just what you needed. Congrats on a great season! You are one lethal sun of a gun.

Sucks about that big one man have been in similar situation. Sort of the reason I try to avid going after 1 single deer anymore. Its not worth it.

Thanks for sharing that write up Andy. That was a good read, and I agree with wickedbruiser, you are a Machine. Congrats on a fine season and congrats to your daughter as well, very cool that she not only got one, but seemed to help end your season on a bright note instead of the downer.
