"Mini buck" first bow buck

Unread postby Mschmeiske » Thu Oct 05, 2017 1:28 pm

I set my alarm for 4:30am, which then turned to 5:00am.. and finally, there I was questioning if I should just go back to bed? I quickly reminded myself that you don't shoot deer doing that kind of nonsense. I got up and hopped in my car and headed for my grandfathers farm with a particular stand in mind. My camera had an 8pt coming by a few days in a row at the end of September around 7-8am with a group of smaller bucks. I sat this stand two days before, but thought another wind would be more favorable, little did I know my milk weed would blow the same direction that morning, as it did the other day. Some doubt clouded my mind.... As I got into stand I heard a ruckus and wondered if that could be the one? Maybe I was a little late? Maybe the deer caught wind of me? I tried to remain positive as I sat back and and watched the sun rise. Around 7am a small 4 or 6 point came behind me At 30 yards, followed by a spike at 730am. At that point my spirits were lifted and I thought maybe this is it! At 835 I heard something from the north and I turned to see this "mini buck" (as my uncle had named him) at 10 yards sniffing a mound of dirt that I had walked through on my entrance. As he's sniffing it, he blows and I'm wondering if my cover is blown! I've already got my bow on him, but haven't drawn in fear of him seeing me do so. "What the heck" I say to myself as I draw back! Thwackkk! He runs ten yards directly in front of my stand and I can see I hit him, but farther back than expected. He stands there a moment and starts to stumble! He goes another ten yards and is now on my right hand side as I watch him fall over. He quickly expired and at that moment started to shake uncontrollably! I did it! My first bow kill and second deer ever.

A big thank you to Tbunao for always listening to my nonsense and for offering his help immediately as I texted him the good news!

Thanks to those of you on here who have always been more than willing to answer my questions and just share advice in general! Tgreeno, Dewey and Joere come to mind, thank you.

Meet "mini buck" and thank you all for the advice.
