I know u took a break mid season, but how much time did you spend on that big one you were going to wait on? You must have thrown a hunt or two at him...
Yea he was
I did do one hunt after them - there were two by some miracle living in the same spot. It was late October, the reason I moved in then was the heavy acorn crop we had - first year since 2014 with lots of acorns. Spring of 2015 I scouted that area and it was torn up by one or both of the big ones in that area. In 2015 and 16 they weren't in there till end of the rut, few acorns. Anyway I snuck in there to set up on the bed for a morning hunt, perfect conditions other than I wanted it windier to cover my approach. An evening hunt is not an option, can't get in there without blowing things up. 50 yards out from my setup off takes a big deer in the dark crashing like a freight train. Probably couldn't have gotten by him in the dark in a hurricane at that range. Didn't see anything close by on the hunt but my camera that soaked there all fall had one of the big ones on there consistent up to that time - then nothing. This is right in the corner of the public, so there's no where else I could get at him. More time would not have gotten me anything just for that spot. I was schooled by a master...

Knew you must have been having a busy season. But as usual you pulled it off again. Love to see more detail on how you made that coat if you have the time. After your buddies buck that's what impressed me most about this year. Wish I had some coyote pelts laying around!!!
Happiness is a large gutpile!!!!!!!

What a season Joe! That is very impressive to say the least. Major congrats to you again on you & your buddies successful hunt together. That is one you won’t forget.
You know how to get it done and how to stay on top of the bucks man. The lack of hunting time was definitely not evident in your write up/photos. Sounds like a great year and fun hunting with friends and family. Doesn’t get much better than that, unless you can do it in a parka you stiched up from coyotes you harvested. Haha... That has to be an awesome feeling and that turned out very nice!
