Yup. Having a lot of extra wall space is a great problem to have. 8-)

Congrats, great buck. I’ve never even shot a flintlock I’d like to try it sometime.

Thanx guys! Sure was awesome to make up for lost time..lol. I've done this once before. And shot my 2nd biggest buck..also with a flintlock lol.

I don't like taking it this late. But, I don't sweat if I do.

Pabowhunter, where ya from? If you're from Western PA, we can probably change that. I'd be thrilled to get others behind a flintlock and pass on some things that I've learned.

After deciding on a shoulder mount, I remembered the infection between his antlers. There is an open wound and it oozed like a volcano.

Talked to my taxidermist and he said he's seen areas like that not fare well when tanned. The hair can slip and/or the skin it self falls apart. That area is tough because the hair is different. Hard to blend and hard to hide. He said if it's small and isolated he can likely work with it..if it's big, it's hard to say if it'll tan well or not.

I'm going to poke around and see how bad it looks. If it doesn't look bad we'll move forward and see how it tans. If it doesn't tan, I'm out the cost of tanning.

I'm not big on using a replacement cape. To me, it's just not HIM.

We'll see...

Great buck mauser! Congrats!

IMO any deer with a flintlock is a trophy, but 3 in 3 days and one being a nice buck. Geez, that's just crazy. I might have to pick your brain sometime about flintlocking...

Send me a PM...feel free...anyone. I'm not pro. But I've taken more deer with a flintlock than a rifle now I believe. And now have gotten into building them.

And if anyone is in Western PA, I'd be glad to hook up for some range time.

There are plenty of myths about flintlocks and how they aren't accurate, nearly impossible to get to go off, they are nothing but game wounders, etc etc I've heard a lot of myths lol.

I've killed several deer in rain and snow..and a spring gobbler in the rain..

They will absolutely make you wanna smash them over a tree on occasion. But, with a little knowledge and practice, that's very minimal.
