UA heat gear is nice, but for anything from moderate temps down to freezing cold all synthetics fall short of merino wool. That is not hyperbole, and I tried various synthetics for years before finding merino wool.

I don't own an merino yet but I have to say I was not impressed with UA, any time you work up a little sweat you feel wet. NOT a good thing. I have some old cheapo long undies that do a better job of wicking moisture, not even sure what they are made of.

Why zip ties?
Zip ties for tags, zip ties for attatching your hand saw to a branch to cut down out of reach limbs, zip ties for adding cover to your tree, zip ties.... etc

Re: Must HAVE equipment
I'll have to give the merino a try this fall. I've heard great thing about the socks so I'll have to try it. Do you use it as your base layer (touching the skin?)
Agreed with zip ties! There are so many uses. Tie a branch up for more cover, Put tag on a deer and (I know you'll laugh) but I use the but out tool. I zip tie the but rather than tying it up. It takes 15 seconds to use that tool with a zip tie and I know I gut it a lot cleaner.

X3. Zip ties are always with me.
It should be noted that all zip ties are created equal. Black zip ties are UV stabilized and better suited for extended outdoor applications (e.g. bending a tree for a licking branch, cover for a stand, etc).

I like poly bottoms. I had some expensive ones from Patagonia but I found I like Dickies work thermal bottoms ($10) from Walmart.

Re: Must HAVE equipment
There are many thing forgotten. A good pull rope, bow hanger,
My preference items:
good saddle, knee pads and tree rope, lineman's belt, API steps and strap (for platform), chest waders/rubber boots, nucanoe, good day pack, knife, binoculars, grunt call, rattling horns at certain times, hand warmers, leaf wear/ghillie suit, modified Hawk Helium Sticks (I will never go back to any single step stick like lone wolf), game cameras, game cart, back pack, good knife, hand pruners, reflective markers (for tracking at night and if I want to return the next morning after an evening hunt - I pull them after I hunt the next AM)notebook and pen (I always take notes while I hunt)
I would add a cell phone for GPS/Maps, pictures, emergency calls etc.
There are many other items you might find in my pack depending on how long I am hunting, what season, how I access, etc...
