Grabbed my canoe and paddled down the river to an island of sorts and hunted a nice point near bedding on an off-wind, but sadly nothing showed.

Well kind of a busted hunt last night, couldn't get out until late so I hauled azz and sprinted to my spot, after a little over a mile I turn a corner to see the oaks near a bedding area were logged off last winter. There was no time for a plan B, but I also suspected the deer were not in the area so I did a quick scout outside bedding and confirmed nothing fresh was around, scouted a couple other points in the area and again nothing. Saw lot of big tracks on the way in but nothing fresh to hit so I sat on a ridge with a nice view of the area on an observation sit, nada again. Still I try to always find the positive, saw plenty of good sized tracks in the area and I might be able to still hunt the bedding area on the other side of the small bowl they were hanging out in.

Just so you guys know...with 10+ mph winds and 60s, it sure feels like hunting. No humidity.

Its hard not to with those cheap OTC tags and great public land options in Western WI. I'll be near the mississippi so i don't think we'll overlap at all. Too bad though i'd offer to buy a round of PBR's maybe

Good luck Dewey and anyone else hitting it tonight! I'll be watching from my daughters birthday party.

There's some good public over there. Always want to get over to that area but just never have the time. And I wouldn't care about overlapping. There's areas by me I bet haven't seen a hunter in years.

Just got setup in my tree. Deep in a public marsh tonight. Scouted this island last spring and it looked hot and found several big buck beds. Trails did not look as great coming in but I’m committed now. Had to cross 150 yards of crotch deep muck water to reach this. Boots and pants on my stand. Actually felt pretty good In the water with this heat.

Very stiff wind which made setup noise nice and making the heat bearable.
