Nothing for me.

It’s amazing how quiet the marsh gets this time of the year after the waterfowl migrations. It was so quiet tonight I could have heard a pin drop from 50 yards. If there was anything within 100 yards I would have heard it coming. Nothing was moving.

Best time for a major cold front is during a holiday hunt. :violin: STUPID!
I better kill a buck Wednesday. No pressure.

Glad we don't have it around here. I am off work the last 10 days of the year and it would really suck if we had the Holiday Hunt here. Feel bad for you guys that have to deal with that crap. Really sucks when we all know just how ridiculous it is considering that condition of our deer herd.

The private I hunt is just inside the holiday hunt boundary. There’s public close by that’s not part of the holiday crap. Never hunted it. Might have a look or wait till the orange is gone and go in full force for Big Mac.

The vastness of that marsh just blows my mind  just air and cattails ;)

Somewhat reminds me of the ag land north of me 40 miles. Nothing but air and dirt.

Dirt doesn’t hide big bucks though. ;)

That view your looking at there is about 6 miles of cattails and water to the far mainland.

That’s a big marsh you got there Dewey, The one I’m working off of isn’t that quiet that big, but then again, from east to west, it might be, I’ll have to measure it out. I’m also not in the holiday hunt area, but it’s pretty close by.

Not when the crops are harvested. But it does when the corn is still standing  so it goes from what feels like next to impossible to nowhere for them to hide during gun season LOL

Pretty sure you can see that marsh from outer space

I really wonder how many other crazies hunt that marsh like Dewey does

Hired a tracking dog to pick up where I’d last seen the buck I shot Saturday evening. Dog followed another quarter mile and stopped at a bed with no blood in it. Only found one chunk of coagulated blood along the trail well before the bed. Called it off and taking it as he’s still well enough and on his feet. Another stab at my pride as I’ve not faired well with shots on the antlered kind this year. Gimme shots at that. In hind sight I feel better that he’s likely to live through it than to find another pile of bones, hide and rack. Moving on and will be back at it ASAP.
Teaching is only demonstrating that it is possible.... Learning is making it possible for yourself.

No movement on Sunday night, but I crept closer to bedding near the swamp. Much of the swamp grass appears to be laid down, and the water is frozen over. The alpha coyote in the area barked and howled a dozen or more times right at last light. It appears the deer are sticking to the higher ground where they can move easier, and have more cover in the thick groves of buckthorn.

Back at it again this afternoon

Here are some picks of beds, and scrapes on my walk-in scout
