From Mich: Thanks beasts
This summer I heard of Dan in a post on Michigan Sportsman Forum, which is similar to THB. Instantly loved what Dan, Mario and others had to say about hunting swamps and listened all the podcasts I could find. Since my public land hunting in crowded SE Mich is mainly in swamps, to avoid others, I wanted to try your tactics, esp hunting near lone trees in the swamp. I'd noticed the 'trails' on aerial photos but thought they were caused by water run off. During archery I checked out a couple lone trees. Just like you guys said, there were beds. Today was the 10th day of gun season - it's hard to see a deer on state land during shooting light this far unto gun season. It was only 2nd time out w gun and I ground hunted 40 yds downwind from a good sized, lone tamarack, mainly for observation. I thought deer would move toward me but at 9am heard slight sound to my left, toward the tamarack, and there stood a nice sized 6 point at 25 yards that had somehow silently approached from behind me. It was completely at ease, browsing on redbush. Unlike many of you I wasn't holding out for a trophy and gladly took the 1.5 yr old deer. I have a ton more to learn and perhaps as I do I'll become more selective. For now I just want to acknowledge Dan, Mario and all you beasts. From a beast-in-training in Mich I offer my sincere thanks. Good luck.

That is awesome. Great post.
Make sure you post a pic of your buck and put it in the line up, you will get nothing but congratulations around here. From what I understand, any buck off Michigan state land that far into gun season is something to be proud of and probably took a lot of work and thought to kill.
Congrats.

Congrats! Awesome post, my first year going totally beast on Michigan public also. Had some of my best encounters ever, no harvest but came very close on a 2.5 and a 3.5 on the same night. Hunted public since 2011 and did not have shots on any deer until this year, and I could have shot several small bucks and a couple of does. Ditto on the thanks to the guys on this site!

Welcome to the Beast, and congrats on the buck! Old school M-S member here who fully converted to the Beast for deer talk....best move I ever made. All I can say is soak it all in....the Beast is a game changer.
