Heaviest buck harvested?

Unread postby mnswamphunter » Thu Dec 14, 2017 4:40 pm

What is your heaviest buck harvested? I am particularly in awh of large deer. They are very impressive . The largest one I shot was 224 lbs. He was chasing a doe into a swamp. They ran right passed me. :D I downed him with a 12 ga slug . He was 30 yards away. I new he was in the area
But I don't get a chance at him until he just ran by
The biggest deer I saw and almost got . It weighed 267. Beast!

I killed one with my bow in 2012 that was 275 if I remember right. I went to move him to take pictures and could barely budge him. He was enormous. I've killed a few since then in the 220-230 range, nothing to match him though.

Mine rarely hit a scale as I usually de-bone and pack out gutless style. But I have killed one over 200 lbs. for sure in southern ohio pre rut mid october

I killed a 4.5 year old buck in Northern Adirondacks where bucks can run very heavy, but it was post rut late november and he was only like 160 on a scale.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

I'm assuming we're talking dressed weight here. Mine was a 9 y/o that weighed in at 194lbs post rut.

Yes dressed weight. I thinks that any buck that is close to 200 lbs and more is a large animal. :D

They get really hard to drag when they get over 200 lbs. I

I'm down south - most deer weigh less than 150# dressed.

Never been able to crack the 200 barrier but my closest was 195 with a bunch of others just below that. The 195 buck was after 2 very hard winters, he had a nice framed rack but it was only 6 points with no brow tines, I have wondered what he could have been if I had shot him any other year.

I don't have a scale to weigh most of mine. The check in station I used to go to had one and I think the heaviest I had was low 180s. I'm looking into buying a scale so I can start weighing them in my garage but I'm still researching the best scale options and am open to suggestions.

I kill deer I don’t harvest them- but to each his own. I’ve cracked the 200# threshold a few times. Northern WI produces some big deer with small racks. I’ve shot a couple like that too.

The buck I killed last year was 200 gutted. He was a tank for this area. I've killed a few others around 190 which is a big deer for here.
