Geez, I read about this deer before but this is the first time I read about finding it 41 days after he shot it. It should not go in the books as an archery kill, just a found/pick up.

I didn't read the whole story but can he prove he killed it?

Re: Should this count??
I don’t think so. If another buck would have given him a shot later in the season he’d have shot it. Would he have just walked past the rack if this buck because he didn’t have a tag for it? Whatever don’t take a quartering to shot with a rage.

I don't think it should. Can't prove he killed it/shot it. I'm sure he did, but just walking up with a skeleton saying I shot this shouldn't warrant record books. At that point its no different than hitting one with your car.
Would love to read one article where I don't have to know exactly what broadhead, knife and nock the guy has. Kinda funny it was a rage broadhead though

No way in Hades. Should be in the books as a pick-up.

If he gimped it and eventually found it, good for him. I'm not positive but if that happened here in Iowa you'd have to use a salvage tag. But, he's not in Iowa so if it's legal, and the game wardens dont care....
To answer the OP, no, I don't think he should get to enter into record books.

It went in as a bow kill. It baffles me how they put it in also.

Yes he absolutely can....Because he has trail cam pics of the buck!
If I had a "kill" for every buck I got on trail cam....
I don't doubt he killed the buck, but it seems Pennsylvania's desire to prove they can produce big bucks has blinded them to a few issues.
Additionally, did anyone else notice this was a very suspect shot? "" Ron recalled. “At 32 yards the buck looked over his left shoulder, exposing his right shoulder and neck. That would be my only chance, so I let him have it where the shoulder meets the neck and I watched the green Lumenok disappear into him.”
Again, I am happy for the guy, but when's the last time you on purpose shot a deer in front of the shoulder where it meets the neck?

Re: Should this count??
I don't think it should count eithier. I have killed 2 in my life that I made horrible shots on, both right in the guts. When I saw what I did I went home and got a gun (which was legal I was bowhunting during gun season) caught up with both and finished them as quick as I could. I don't count them as a bow kill. But I'm not gonna watch a animal suffer or risk losing one to make myself feel special.

Re: Should this count??
Sounds like the record-keepers felt there was enough corroborating evidence to support that he actually shot this deer. If they feel that it meets their criteria for the record books then so be it.
IMO, very unethical shot. For me, if my desire for some bones becomes greater than the need to take a solid ethical kill shot, I would consider giving up the sport. This dude missed an easier broadside shot on a deer earlier, and then tries this shot? This guy sounds like he is just flinging arrows and hoping.

Re: Should this count??
I think this is absurd as well, should absolutely not count.
The PA game commission is obviously doing this because they want to show hunters it was THEIR implementation of AR and THEIR public game lands that produced this buck. Probably hoping for more license sales after the decrease in recent years...

I dont think it should count. Cool that he found it though.
Terrible shot placement, there was no ethics involved in that kill. Funny it was a rage broadhead. It sounds like the guy needs to practice more this off season.
