December 1st for me, caught a nice buck tailing a doe midday around 1:30. Went in for a morning hunt and the day just felt right so decided to sit all day and it payed off. My buddy left early big mistake. The area I hunt the most rut action starts after thanksgiving and slows down about second week of December.

november 11 is historically the best day for my area. That said i have never killed on that day but my journals show that day to be the best over many different properties. this year was a bust but i saw several bucks moving/ cruising the 12th.

Had my two best close encounters with mature Ohio bucks November 3rd and the 7th. I blew it on the third on a mid 140’s buck and passed what would of been a mid 150’s 10 point that had broken his left main beam off right above the brow tine. Best trail cam picture days of mature bucks on their feet during daylight for me was Oct 29th and November 18th
Persistence pays!!!

Halloween day in Ohio I clearly had a hot doe in the area. I was set up in a pinch point downwind of doe bedding and saw 8 bucks (I think 1 or 2 were the same deer) pass thru pinch in a little over 2 hours, with other bucks trailing the edge of doe bedding area and chasing about 100 yds away out of range. Couldn't resist and shot a 2.5 yr old at 7 yds being that it was my last full day to hunt. If I waited I could have had an opportunity at a better buck or went back to home the next day with tag soup. This was the most buck activity I have ever witnessed and it was on public.

October 15th. I think I had 3 cams out, and 2 had good bucks on the 15th. I think I only had 4 bucks over 3 years old all year. And I shot my buck the 15th.

Nov 21 was the day this season that truly tested my resolve to shoot only a mature buck! The tall four point came into my furthest shooting lane after a doe and instantly snort wheezed at a smaller buck. He did again and again. Then turned and charged the other buck! After a short chase he returned to the doe and offered me a 20yrd shot. Oh man, what a gorgeous buck!
By this time I was ready to be done! I had a week vacation in October and two over November.

Five years ago I would have taken the shot for sure. This was the tenth buck of the season I passed on and had only seen two mature bucks all season, both to far for a shot! I also had two other spots with a couple shooters on trailcam. Pretty cool to see a buck snort wheeze! Have only heard one once before.

Nov 5th. Saw a giant 8 point that was definitely mature. The biggest eight I have ever seen on the hoof. Also a 3.5 year old 10 that I think would have easily hit 140 plus.

best all day action was November 7th. Killed on Evening of November 10th and didn't hunt again until late season.

October 25th I saw 4 different bucks from the stand here in PA. Included in these 4 bucks was a big shooter that I had a 35 minute encounter with. From then on I had pretty slow hunts thru the end of our archery season on Nov. 11th. I didn't hunt again until November 27th and had a great morning and was able to put down my target buck(same bud kI had the encounter with on October 25th). They came thru early and were not pressured but since it was opening day of the PA gun season I'm sure I was probably only minutes away from never seeing that buck again.

October 30th, passed 3 bucks all between 105-120" within 35 yards hunting on the ground, and fiance shot her first archery buck shortly after.
