Yeap, and my state is right above his. Plus I have that great advantage over the other Mass hunters that I cannot walk into the woods

Agreed on WNY. There are lots of big woods in the Adirondacks and Catskills that have lower pressure, but WNY is loaded with pressure and has better deer numbers. I would have guessed 30-50 hunters/sq. mile. The QDMA shows much less, but it is averaged across the state. It is not uncommon for us to have 2-4 hunters on 40 acres at the same time.

Do you guys ever encounter any scouting pressure? I know this time of the year I have the woods to myself and its great, can't recall ever seeing another hunter or even a truck parked here or there. Certainly a few tracks once in a while but never an "encounter". 8-)

Yes, I encounter some serious hunters scouting. I also see likely poachers driving about while I'm scouting in the spring, the poaching is year around here. Here's a pic from this spring, I think they dumped this deer when they heard my truck coming:

I love the "pressure" discussion because it's so complex with endless factors.

You could have 100 acres with 10 guy's hunting it (A) and two miles down the road you could have 100 acres with 1 guy hunting it (B). Property (A) has 10 times the pressure as property (B) within the same township.

Property (A) could be hunted 1 time by 10 guy's and property (B) could be hunted 100 times by 1 guy. Now property (B) has 10 times the pressure as property (A).

(A) could be hunted by 1 guy and have 10% available habitat. (B) could be hunted by 1 guy and have 100% available habitat...all else being = property (A) has 10 times the pressure as property (B).

1 guy that doesn't know what he is doing can create 10 times more pressure than 10 guy's that do know what there doing can.

And the list go's on and on.......

I agree. However I personally believe the biggest factor in " hunting pressure" is how early in life bucks are getting shot at. The difference is huge in my opinion.

My thought on hunting pressure. Opening day in the woods.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

I like this ^

Though I do separate the act of killing deer as a by product of "hunting pressure" or the act of hunting.
