Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
.308 does alright for me. Actually shot this 3-shot group (next to orange dot on head of the silhouette) today @400yds off a bipod.
Lapua brass, CCI large rifle primer, 43gr Varget topped with a 175gr Sierra Match King, loaded to the lands. 100yd zero and 6.75MOA dialed on the elevation turret.

270 Power Points
I have some silver tips, they are effective for long range. Seen a hunter shoot a deer 180 yds with a silver tip. He blew the right rear ham apart. The are faster than the power points.

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
I used to shoot rem. Core loc but they blew apart too much on big deer. I switched to fusions. I like them but if there is a draw back they don't expand enough. It is nice cleaning the meat though because it's not all blown up. I like them for tracking because shot choice is not always optimal and they dig deep.

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
Picked up a .270 savage axis this past summer. Shooting 130 grain Hornady American whitetail bullets. We will see how that combo works on deer this year. Thus far on the practice range the bullet does what I want. Accurate and packs a punch.

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
After I put a timney trigger on my 270 someone mentioned for me to try shooters choice cleaner to remove the copper and powder residue.
For me, that made a big difference when I was shooting multiple bullets. It was amazing.

Interesting- how many shots in between you using it? I assume you mean it greatly improved your accuracy...

It really did improve my accuracy. I would shoot about 10 rounds and then clean it. I could not believe how fouled it would get after shooting 10 power point winchester bullets.

How do you know when all the copper is gone? What material is the brush your using?

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
.280 remington woodsmaster my grandfather gave me. I've killed a few bucks with it. I've used .280 remington 140 & 150 grain core lokt. I'm retiring it this year. It was made in the 1950's and I want to be able to hand it down to my kids. Also .280 ammo is getting harder to find. I picked up a .308 this year and have stared making some handloads for it.

I've heard that the .280 is a good rifle. I've never shot one.

It's recoil is comparable to my .270. I'm able to use it on a lot more public lands than my .270 Remington. This will be my first season with it, and I have no doubt about its knock down power. Its not a true rifle, but for me and the thickets I like hunting, my .270 just took a backseat.

I've got two of these bad boys! One in black and another just like yours. Accuracy is ridiculous for a slug gun! It took a long time to find the right combination for my original black one, but the Federal Trophy Copper in 3" work the best in my guns. The Hornady SST had worse 50 yd groups than Sluggers out of my 870 smoothbore slug barrel! I have yet to loose/wound a deer that I have shot at with my Savage 220F.

Re: Favorite Rifle Cartridge
Just used a brush to loosen that would fit the barrel then I used an old white t shirt and mad some cleaning clothes. They would come out blue as the copper is being remove and will go lighter as it is totally remove. Sure makes the barrel look nice and glossy inside until you shoot it again.

Sweet gun Bonecrusher
I shoot a 30-06, I own two. I was told when I was younger to get a versatile rifle that can knock down most big game and has easy to find ammunition and also isn't overpowering with too much recoil so that is what I wound up with. Used to love Federals trophy bonded bullets but theyve changed.
