Re: Coopers Rock WV
I am about 15 minutes from there right now I hike there some but have never hunted it, I know some guys that do with little luck, they aren't beast members tho I've seen trail cam pics of some bucks in there and it holds good deer, just hard to get away from the hikers. I may put some more time in it this year because it's close to where I work. Sorry I can't help much other than that info.

Re: Coopers Rock WV
I have some friends that hunted it in college, and have killed some deer. Nothing huge, but I know they saw good bucks and got some good ones on trail cam. I think there are some bears also. I have never been there. The DNR has really good maps on their site and some good info, the state wildlife manager could tell you more.
I am sure it is a popular destination being close to WVU, Morgantown.

Some do. Some don't. I just might...

I hiked up there a lot. I worked at the University Forest for a bunch of years when I was going to school at WVU. I never saw a ton in terms or deer but I didn't spend a mess of time hunting up there. If I knew what I knew now I might tell you different. Cool area though.

There are some good deer up there, but you have to hike to find them. The good thing is that It is a giant piece of ground, so you can get away from people as long as you get off of the trails.
Anything worth doing, is worth over doing.

I’ve looked at it from a map a lot and was thinking about scouting it. Anyone know much about it?

Re: Coopers Rock WV
I hunt it occasionally. I usually have a few encounters with mature bucks each year there. Pressure was crazy last year but it comes and goes. Get your boots on the ground and scout. I highly recommend staying away from power lines this time of year unless you like rattlesnakes.

Re: Coopers Rock WV
A lot of younger guys I run into up there have the hunt deep mentality. I've walked over a mile into the woods and had guys within eye sight. The best buck encounters I have had have been within 100 yards of a main road or a major hiking trail. Seems odd but I think the deer up there know where human scent should and shouldn't be.

You’re probably right on the money there! I’ve seen that a lot since I’ve found The Hunting Beast. So, I’m taking it as it’s highly pressured? And do you know of any more public place close to there?

Re: Coopers Rock WV
In bow season pressure isn't too bad during the week until November. Expect more pressure on the weekends. Gun season is insane first week. I've found bowhunting during the "October lull" to be good when there is a good acorn crop.

Ok cool! I can’t wait to scout it. Any suggestions on where to start?

Re: Coopers Rock WV
I would learn the hiking trails since they do provide nice quiet access and study topo maps and aerial photos. There is more timber management going on north of the interstate since WVU manages that area.
