Iowa Zone 4

Unread postby Tim H » Sat Feb 03, 2018 6:50 am

Anyone has any experience with public land in Zone 4 in Iowa. In a month I'll be heading down that way to scout/shed hunt. I'll be cyber scouting and using the IDNR atlas before I head down but wanted to see what insight others might have.

There are a few big public chunks, but there is more in zone 5. Still, there should be some nice bucks to be had.
Anything worth doing, is worth over doing.

I have a couple areas picked out that I'll be heading to. I'm hoping I can put myself in a position to get on a decent buck! A 130 class to me is a giant so I'm interested in how this trip will go. :D

Never hunted zone 4 but given your goals and depending on how much time you have to hunt you should at least lay eyes on a few of that caliber. If you do your homework I would also bet you'd have a chance at one. I would caution you on only looking at big chunks as sometimes these have most of the pressure.

Yesterday I cyber scouted an area of around 2000 acres. Looks pretty decent. But next month I’ll confirm that. ;)
