Observing the area where I found those monster turds last fall. One doe so far... watched her browse in the tall grass for an hour. All in the same 20 yard area. Tough spot to observe (and hunt) but wind wasn’t good for the two spots I wanted to go to.

Checked out a new area in Vilas County, WI. Acorn crop is great, black berries are prime for picking, and the bugs are mild. Found one rub and a nice track.

Wind was wrong to glass the spot I saw all the bucks last Friday so I had to settle for the opposite side of the swamp. Ended up seeing two does and two smaller bucks. Be back out there this week!

A suspected travel route for a buck had a track in it showing the back dew claws. Could be him.

Nice! Wed and Fri here...

I’ve got some big ones on cam that bed on the neighbors, so rut is likely my only chance there. Other than that the only target I have is a 3 yr old and I haven’t observed those beans for a couple weeks. That’s probably where I’ll go Friday. If he’s still there I’m going after him.

I did see one big one near public while shining, but I’ve never set foot out there and it looks super low odds for bow hunting. Nothing to go on regarding classic bedding features. It’s all random structureless thicket pockets and CRP.

Can't find fresher sign than actually seeing them laying it down!

Rub.jpg

Was out on the public yesterday during a storm, and on the way out I walked up on a two year old thrashing a few saplings around 1:00 in the afternoon.

I was only about 17 yards away when I noticed him and he had no clue I was there.....ground was quiet and he was upwind.

After he moved on I went over to investigate and found that he had actually been bedded during the rain, as there was a dry bed.....he must have just gotten up and started rubbing.

He wasn't there a couple hours earlier when I went in, as I walked right through that same area.

Tried to get some video with the phone, but that didn't really turn out. Pretty cool encounter!

That's awesome Ack.That is the freshest of fresh sign.

It's also encouraging to hear they're ramping up the activity.

Did some more glassing tonight and was surprised to see all the deer out while driving to the property at like 6:45. This was right about when the rain stopped finally. Saw a couple of does and bumped a couple does on the way out in the dark. Slow night behind the binos

Glassed again last night from a different location and did not see a single deer which was very strange considering the drop in temperature. Decided to hold off on the morning hunt today and will try to do a little scouting before the evening debut tonight. Deer must be on acorns hard as I could view several green fields adjacent to a large swamp
