Small Rivers

Hey Guys,

Curious if anyone has had any luck either hunting or scouting along small river channels like this? I imagine the river channel is produces a good scent stream?

I have scouted a few areas similar, havent killed a buck in a spot like that yet. One revelation I have had with these spots is going on google earth and looking back on the old black and white aerials. You can really see some oxbows and features that you would not normally see on the color aerials like yours.

There is probably bedding down there somewhere but it will take some boots on the ground finding it. Try finding an aerial from winter months to locate the thickest areas. River/Creek bedding is easier to pinpoint w more defined oxbows (horse shoe/tear drop bends). Though, bucks will cruise or scent check on a trail parallel w the water, downwind of the woods during rut activities.

*Edit - sorry Mike, didnt see yours before posting. I got button happy.

Is that an ATV trail on the left hand side or a deer trail? Between the river and the swamp on top of the map has some bigger trees. I bet there is a trail going through there.
