Strange observance on a buck bed...??

Unread postby fauxfly » Sun Dec 10, 2017 11:42 am

So I was out doe hunting yesterday and when I decided to call it a day, I didn't walk out the same way I went in - I walked down the military crest - a couple hundred yards down the ridge I was on. I noticed a little brushy shelf and thought immediately "there has got to be a buck bed right there!" Sure enough right where it should have been - looking waaaay down the valley and back to wind. I sat down in the bed to see my next season's operating window and noticed that the brush in front of the bed was chewed off - about 8 or 10 little pieces of brush, all chewed off about 10 inches above the ground. I was kind of surprised - Would a mature buck actually reason to chew off some brush to improve his view??

If so - that is kind of freaky to think this animal has the mental capacity to remove some brush to have a better view - - I'd expect this stuff from a wolf or a cougar, but have never seen a whitetail bed with something like this??

Am I over thinking this?? Is this really what I'm looking at??

What say you guys??

I’d say he got hungry while he was laying there.

Anywhere they spend a good amount of time you will find browse. I look for it. Not much browse means not much use in my book, assuming there is browse around.

My two cents.

Let’s hope they don’t get internet and find the beast or we’re done. Be on the lookout for usernames like IAMnotabuck, doesandspikesfirst, nockturnalgiant

I’ve wondered if they will remove sticks that have fallen in the bed. Found a few that had small branches in them that I know had been used fairly recent. Curious if they would try to move it to use the bed again.
