I use my Nikon Monarch 10x42’s or my Leupold spotting scope. This past season I also added a Vortex monocular. Really liking it for stand hunting and how compact it is.

I'm thinking of going the Vortex route myself. Would you suggest going 8X42 or 10X42? Is there that much difference? Also I'm just thinking of scouting within a hundred yards. Nothing farther.

My Vortex monocular is 8x36.

I use the vortex viper 10x42 HD's. They are awesome in the field and at home. I also bought a tripod that I use while shooting my bow in the backyard and glassing out my window at home

For binoculars I like 10x42 but they are pretty big so you need some type of harness for them.

Re: What Binoculars when Glassing?
Jason brand pre-1992 before Bushnell bought them out. They seem to have an auto focus. I like them very much.
They do not seem to compete with high end brands of today.
What do still hunters use in the brush? I am doing more hunting in the swamp and woods and my bino's do not seem to work very well under 70 yards in the woods/swamps. It's like the Bino does not know what to focus on when there is too much brush and grass.

I am no expert with binos, but I recently got a pair of 8x24 Mavens and really like them. They are quality while only costing $325. Hard to beat if you ask me.

I use Vortex Viper 10x50. I'm sure 10x42 would be fine too. I bought them with the intention of putting them on a tripod to hunt mule deer out west but the work for stool hunting too.
I can freehand them. With a ball cap you can steady them a little better.

Re: What Binoculars when Glassing?
Well I’m different. I had Nikon pro staffs and there were ok for the money. Then I got a pair of vortex’s. Pretty nice glass but they would fog in colder temps. After years of buying 2-500 dollar pairs I finally sucked it up 2 years ago and bought 8 x 32 el Swarovski. Unreal. Should have listened to my dad and bought them years ago. They will last me for the next 40 years of hunting. Buy once, cry once.

Re: What Binoculars when Glassing?
I have owned vortex viper, zeiss conquest and leupold BX3 pro guide HD (all in 8x42 or 10x42). Honestly, they are all great glass and quality binos. But for the money, the leupold are as nice as any (to my surprise and comparing them side by side while hunting) and cheaper. I found this set on ebay new for under $300. I suspect you might still be able to get a similar deal. They also have a lifetime warranty. In the end, I prefer 8x42 but if I was hunting out west, I might opt for the 10x.

vortex 8 x 42 they are good for everything and tripod adaptable I think mine were a 140 bucks and my buddy says they are almost as clear as his high end stiner.
