I started mine out when she was a pup around the house. Now I stash them around the yard. There’s plenty of online info on this

But is it worth it? That’s the question my friend

What did she dash her leg open on?

Was always cool how he found deer beds sometimes with one still in it. He would go on alert downwind and then a deer would pop up from the bed.

Same thing here. My lab will be 15 this year and just can't go those distances anymore. Looking back, I really wish I would have taken him even more. He absolutely loved it but I wasn't scouting back then like I do now. I'd tell everyone to take advantage of every opportunity to take your best friend into the wood because you won't be able to before you know it. Many missed opportunities here and makes me sad.

I went scouting with a buddy today, so I left the pup at home. Problem is he seen me grab my bibbs and must have known what was up. My wife said he whined and pouted the whole time I was gone.
Yeah, he's one of us.

Lmao sounds just like my GSD. When my American Bully was younger she would do the same thing when I came back into the house wearing camo and a bow in my hand. Eager to help me find bambi lol

I grew up with Labs and miss running around the woods with them. We have a 10 year old Alaskan Malumute that I love very much. Different animal. Off leash in the woods would be a nightmare for any critter in the woods he could catch. He would likely unsuccessfully chase a deer and not return any time soon.
Awesome dog though.

Really nice pics by the way.

I take mine every chance I get. More of killing 2 birds with one stone for me, I get to scout and they get there exercise. They do more lying around than anything, in the summer I often have to carry them out if they get to hot lol.

I used to take my boxer every time, but after a few vet bills for eye surgery after going through the thick stuff I quit. Now I have a cattle dog who loves to go but I don't take him. I just like being alone in the woods and moving slow and really paying attention to everything and a dog is just one more thing to keep track of. But I don't think it hurts anything to take them, and if I had a trained shed dog I would definitely take it this time of year, but it would be trained to listen and not run off or chase animals.

I also do a lot of hiking for exercise without scouting and the dog definitely comes then.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

I know they enjoy it more than us. Mine are about 1 and 3 y/o so just too hyper to take in the woods, and the older one broke her foot probably 6 months ago running in tall grass chasing grasshoppers. Stepped in a pot hole and went down. Really sucked that I was a mile from home and no phone. Not fun carrying a 80lb dog over your shoulder like a sack of taters. Just starting to get back into her 2 hours a day of frisbee with no limping or pain afterwards.
